Astrology (Vedic or Western) – is a science that uses planetary placements at birth and transits to explain the past, present, and future.
Every individual has a horoscope (also called a Birth Chart) that is made to determine how or what their life will be as per Astrology. This horoscope is made using the Time of Birth, Place of Birth, and Date of Birth.

In Astrology (Vedic or Western) – there are 12 Houses. Each house contributes to some aspect of an individual’s life.
These houses are linked to the Zodiacs that will be ruled by one of the 7 planets (the Sun is also considered a planet and not a star) or co-ruled by the 2 shadow planets (Rahu or Ketu).
Rahu is called the shadow of Saturn over the Moon. It is also called the north node of the moon. Rahu depicts – the present and future of life.
Ketu is called the shadow of Mars over the Moon. It is also called the south node of the moon. Ketu depicts – the past life.
So, when we talk about which house in the Horoscope is active, it depends on
- The ongoing Mahadasha
- The ongoing Antardasha
- Placement of the planet(whose mahadasha or antardasha is going on) in the birth chart
- Transit of the planet(whose mahadasha or antardasha is going on) in a specific house
- Aspects on or by the planet(whose mahadasha or antardasha is going on) in the birth chart or during transit
We need to consider all these points before we can make preliminary observations.
