NTPC has been showing resilience in terms of results in the past few years considering the reforms in the Power Sector and focus on streamlining supply.
The net profit owing to this has been seeing a steady rise over the years. (Link)
The stock in the past 1-year has been able to give returns in excess of 12% despite the turbulence linked to coal supply
Other than the core focus on power generation using fossil fuels, NTPC is diversifying its Energy Mix
- NTPC has tied up with Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for realizing power generation using Natural Gas Mixed with Hydrogen in various proportions (Link)
- NTPC’s Renewable Energy Arm has awarded contract to Hitachi Energy India for supply equipment to the 4.75 GW renewable energy park in Gujarat (Link)
- NTPC has signed with Electric Vehicle Aggregators in the past for development of development and utilization of public charging infrastructure (Link)
- NTPC has formed a Joint Venture with IOCL for supply of 650 MW renewable energy that would be required by the upcoming Oil refineries (Link)
- NTPC will have its first standalone fuel cell based 50 kW microgrid pilot project with green hydrogen production using electrolyser in the Vizag region (Link)
Considering all these factors, few things can be stated aptly,
- Like PGCIL, NTPC will remain a dominant PSU player that will be the core power provider using a mix of non-renewable (thermal, natural gas, etc.) and renewable (solar, wind, Green Hydrogen, etc.)
- NTPC will be key player in India’s Quest for being “Net Zero” by 2070
- With time, NTPC will move into new areas like Waste to Energy & Waste Gasification in a big way (Link) (Link)
Considering all these factors, NTPC may not be a multi-bagger stock but surely be a steady dividend paying growth stock that will provide the needed stability to an individual’s portfolio.
Hope this helps
